The Fontan Outcomes Network is a community of patients, family members, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and supporters, dedicated to improving the quality of life and health outcomes for individuals with single ventricle circulation. Each month, we feature a member of the community who goes “above and beyond” in service of this mission as our #HeartHero.
Name: Johnathan Caldwell
About Johnathan
Johnathan was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) in the womb. This news came to his family after previously losing two other children to this congenital heart defect. At only three days old, Johnathan received surgery to fix his heart. After spending weeks in the hospital, he was not expected to survive. A true miracle, he defeated all of the odds. Since then, he has received two more open heart Surgeries.
Jonathan is now 27 Years old. In his free time, he enjoys music and video games. Johnathan currently receives care at Medical College of Georgia - Augusta University, where he says he has the best care team and doctor.
“You don’t know how much it means to me as an adult living with a congenital heart disease to help families and talk them through things they may face.”
Along his heart journey, Johnathan often comes across families who are seeking hope. “You don’t know how much it means to me,” Johnathan says, “as an adult living with a congenital heart disease to help families and talk them through things they may face.”
To this day, Johnathan says he is a happy and blessed 27-year-old Heart Warrior who counts it as a blessing to be alive.
