FON #HeartHero Spotlight: Gloria Gilbert
The Fontan Outcomes Network is a community of patients, family members, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and supporters, dedicated to improving the quality of life and health outcomes for individuals with single ventricle circulation.
Each month, we feature a member of the community who exhibits heroic qualities in service of this mission as our #HeartHero.
Gloria Gilbert
Name: Gloria Gilbert
Care Center: Children’s Medical Center Dallas
About Gloria: Gloria Gilbert is an 18-year-old high school junior living in Texas.
Gloria was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a critical congenital heart defect where the left side of the heart does not form correctly in utero.
“She pushes through 100 percent on everything she does. She is a great role model for teens with Single Ventricle.”
Despite her condition, Gloria lives her life to the fullest each and every day.
“She pushes through 100% on everything she does,” says Amanda Harper, who nominated Gloria for the Heart Hero Spotlight. “She is a great role model for teens with Single Ventricle.”
Amanda knows Gloria through Heart Camp, where Amanda served as Gloria’s camp counselor. Since that connection, Gloria has gotten involved in other activities in the single ventricle community, including peer-to-peer chats.
In response to her nomination for this spotlight, Gloria expressed gratitude for the support of older individuals with single ventricle.
“I am so thankful,” Gloria said, “for Amanda and the other adults that take the time to support and mentor the younger generation.”
Gloria Gilbert was born with HLHS.
